{UAH} WE AREN'T YET READY FOR MULTI-PARTY BASED ELECTIONS

Friends:

Some of you think that we only support Ahmed Katerega and others because they are Muslims. What I asked Muslims to do during these elections is not different from what I asked the rest of Ugandans.i.e. to vote for those that will protect their causes regardless of their parties. It doesn't take a flaming skeptic to figure out that some of you aren't exactly straightforward and factual in the way they present their opinions. They like ad hominem arguments instead of sticking to the issues at hand. They like attacking Abbey Semuwemba as a person rather than the issues I raise.

Ugandans have been voting for personalities since 1996. Some of the independent candidates we have today are arguably stronger than some parties. Do you remember Hajji Nasser Ssebagala's 'hajji agambye tuwe Besigye' during the 2001 elections yet he was a DP at the time? DP and UPC have now been turned into pressure groups fighting at their headquarters. JEEMA is probably the second most organised party after FDC, but they are struggling to attract supporters.

Other small parties, such as Beti Kamya's Federal Alliance, can never make it under the system we have today, how many electoral votes did Ms.Kamya get anyway? probably none in Bugerere. The disenchanted who form these small parties would do much better to join one of the two biggest party(either FDC or NRM) and then work to change it from the inside out. Otherwise, they have no hope nor do people who vote for small party candidates despite their beautiful manifestos.

The thing is when you ask God to give you the rain, you must be prepared for the mud that comes with it, but we aren't yet prepared for Mult-party system. Multi-party systems are inherently unstable and produce weak leaders in developing countries that pretend to be democratic. These weal leaders produce weak mandates that turn out to be used as propaganda. For instance, how many times has the so called NRM 10 point programmes have wasted our time and space in newspapers for the last 30 years, yet we all know that it wasn't different from ten points of propaganda as cited by Adolf Hitler in his book "Mein Kampf''. The so called 'Bona bagagawale', 'NAADS' and all that crap are all ''harmless fuzzball''!

As upsetting as it is to your stomach, you should accept that multi-party politics isn't working in Uganda at the moment, and cannot get us out of the Museveni dictatorship. We are not all for equal treatment under the law but we are all for government mandated equal results. We are all for rights but Museveni favors individual rights. We are all for equal access to jobs but Museveni are for favoritism to certain groups. He often does tie words such as "evil" to opposition viewpoints, and he provides a philosphical argument for using that term, and some people end up agreeing with him because our politics is based on personalities. And, unfortunately, will continue to do so for a number of years to come.
