Over one million to sit for Uneb exams

KAMPALA- More than one million candidates will sit their Primary Seven, O-level and A-level examinations this year.
A total of 1,037,219 candidates have registered for the October/November exams compared to last year's 1,024,315, According to the Uganda National Examinations Board, 620,825 pupils from 7,787 examination centres have registered for Primary Leaving Examinations.
According to statistics from ministry of Education, a total of 1,946,318 pupils joined Primary One seven years ago.
This means that 1,325,493 (representing 68.1 per cent) dropped out of school before completing the seven-year cycle.
The two-day Primary Seven examinations will start on November 2, with Mathematics and Social Studies and end on November 3, with Science and English language in the afternoon.
A total of 314,286 Senior Four students will begin their exams on October 12, while Senior Six will begin with Economics and Chemistry subjects on November 9.
Uganda Advance Certificate of Education has registered 102,108 students compared to last year's 109,897.
In a statement, the Uneb spokesperson, Mr Hamis Kaheru, advised parents and students to crosscheck with their respective examination centres to confirm whether the candidates names were captured by the examining body before the exams begin. As well, SMS can be used by typing the full index number and sending it to 6600.
