Former athletics world champion Dorcus Inzikuru is expected to join
thousands of people as chief climber in the mini run and hiking of Got
Ngetta rock in Lira this Sunday September 27, 2015.

The Got Ngetta challenge is a climax to the weeklong world Tourism Day
celebrations that ends on Sunday in Lira.

Lira was chosen by the ministry of tourism to host the annual tourism
show piece.

The district will also hold its first tourism cluster meeting this
Wednesday aimed at uniting the locals to start the process of
identifying, developing and marketing key tourism attractions of the
district.

"The Got Ngetta hill challenge is first of all a social health issue
and we expect locals to be fitter and healthier after the challenge,
but secondly, proceeds will go towards the women who suffered the
brunt of the LRA war," noted Tony Ofungi, a committee member of
Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) who is one of the
organisers of the run.

Lango has produced some of the great names in Uganda's athletics
history like Uganda's first Olympics athletics gold medal winner, John
Akii Bua and former youth champion, Julius Acon.

The Got Ngetta Hill located in Ngetta zone, 10km from Lira town is a
magnificent solid dark rock standing at about 4,500ft above sea level.

According to legend, it is believed that in the 16th century, the
present day tribes of Teso, Karamojong, the Acholi, Lango, Kumams and
Japhadola all belonged to the Langi tribe migrated and settled in the
present day Ngetta zone in Lira District.

Thousands of locals and the tourism private sector fraternity under
their umbrella organization AUTO will throng the town and take part in
the Ngetta challenge.

Michael Ongora said Lira University will provide the ambulance for any
health emergencies on the day.

Inzikuru, a former World Commonwealth Games 3000 metres steeplechase
champion has recently joined the race for Northern Uganda Youth Member
of Parliament Inzikuru is contesting for MP as youth representative.
