KAMPALA. Nakifuma County member of parliament Robert Ssekitoleko has been disqualified from the NRM party primaries over lack academic qualification.
According to NRM Electoral Commission chairman Tanga Odoi, letters from Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) and Kampala Secondary School where Ssekitoleko claims to have studied and got his 'O' certificate indicated that the legislator was never a student there.
"Lukooya Mukoome Ssekitoleko (politician) petitioned us (NRM EC) accusing Mr Ssekitoleko of not having proper academic qualifications. Robert (Ssekitoleko) filed his defense attaching secondary end of term exam reports. We wrote to the administration of the school who have disowned the MP," Mr Odoi said on Wednesday, adding, "He reportedly later did a certificate in mechanical engineering from Kisubi and diploma in mechanical engineering from Kyambogo University. As I talk now, UNEB has recalled his academic papers because he did not have minimum qualification to apply for those courses."
Subsequently, Mr Ssekitoleko was disqualified as a candidate in the party primaries.
While at NRM Electoral Commission offices earlier in the day, Mr Ssekitoleko threatened to sue the party's electoral body if his candidature was cancelled.
Uganda People's Defence Force Lt. Leon Lumaga nominated for Bujumba County Kalangala district was also disqualified on grounds that he had not resigned from the army as required by the law.
Those cleared are Katongole Singh (Rubaga North) and Oseku Oriebo Anthony (Butebo County).
