Police seal off Mbabazi Soroti venue

Soroti. Police has sealed off Soroti Independence Square where Presidential aspirant John Patrick Amama Mbabazi was due to hold a consultative meeting today.
In an operation led by the Regional Police Commander East Kyoga, ACP Phillip Acaye, the armed personnel are blocking Mbabazi supporters from entering the venue saying "its engaged." The RPC had told Mbabazi supporters to relocate from the Square in the centre of town to Soroti Sports Grounds near the district headquarters on the outskirts of the town.

Mbabazi team led by Mr Stanley Eroku, an aspirant for the Soroti Municipality seat had on Tuesday paid Shs 350,000 for the venue to the municipal authorities, who said the venue was available.
"We have received communication from the town clerk cancelling the venue," the regional police spokesperson, Juma Hassan Nyene told Daily Monitor.
Mbabazi supporters who had arrived with his campaign materials are stranded after the found the place decorated with president Museveni's campaign posters.
The Electoral Commission spokesperson, Jotham Taremwa on Tuesday warned Mr Mbabazi, a former Secretary General of the ruling NRM against holding rallies instead of a consultative meeting. Mbabazi addressed a huge rally at Soroti cricket grounds on Modnay and another sizeable rally at Boma grounds in Kapchorwa town on Tuesday.
