Sodomy: Chris Mubiru sentenced to 10 years

Buganda Road Court has sentenced former Sports Club Villa manager, Christopher Mubiru to ten years in prison. Court also ordered him to compensate his sodomy victim with Shs 50m shillings.
 
The verdict was passed by Chief Magistrate Flavia Nabakooza who observed that children all over the world are protected from mischief. Before court could pass its sentence, Nabakooza asked the victim to say something before his tormentor could be sentenced, as enshrined in the sentencing guidelines.
 
The victim, who was hooded to hide his identity from the media, told court in Luganda that his future has been wasted. He also asked that Mubiru compensates him with Shs 100m.
 
The magistrate then delivered her ruling, and advised Mubiru to appeal it if he is dissatisfied. Mubiru's lawyers led by Isaac Ssemakadde said they will appeal. Renowned anti-homosexuality city pastor Solomon Male welcomed the sentence saying it will be an example to protect children against homosexuals.
 
Mubiru was last week found guilty of sodomising a 17-year-old boy in 2009. He was charged under Section 145(a) of the Penal Code Act. The law prohibits same-sex sexual acts and provides for a punishment of up to life imprisonment once found guilty.
