{UAH} Tips to survive in New Orleans over the labor day weekend
Happy Labor day weekend to you.
Those of you going to New York, I will miss you. I won't be able to come, I hope you too have a wonderful time and enjoy yourselves.
Disclaimer: My advise below is not an endorsement or representative of the Uganda North American Association, UNAA. It is intended to advise those who need it. It is NOT also official government(local, state, federal or military) advice, it is my personal advice from my personal experience within the city.
Some of you coming to New Orleans this weekend for whatever the reasons are, I have lived in New Orleans for close to four years there are some tips that could help you:
1) From anywhere you are staying make sure that you only go to places frequented by tourists( French Quarters, Children Museum, Aquarium, the Zoo, and plenty of boat cruises by the day on the Mississippi river right by the French Quarters). If you find yourself in a place with homeless people just leave the areas immediately.
2) Avoid walking at night alone.
3) If you happen to drive, don't get into argument with anyone on the street. Plenty of guns, you might end up in the weekend statistics! So many people have a lot of guns in their vehicles and don't get into a road rage with anyone. Just simply let them go. The driving is crazy. Not as bad as Uganda but they will hit you in a minute. Do not count on the other driver to stop, just practice defensive driving tacks.
4) Bourbon Street in the French Quarters is an interesting experience to visit. However, I would advise the Ugandan Minister of Ethics, Father Simon Lokoda not visit here because he might end up fighting with tourists. Those who love to drink you can drink all night out. Especially this weekend the Street will be flooded with people. All kinds of people are on this street, it will blow your eyes, at night it gets very weird. If it was in Uganda Father Lakoda would be arresting 90% of the people.
5) I would not recommend driving within the city, parking is not easily found. It is better to take those bicycle taxis. They are very organized. There is also plenty of Taxi cabs on the street. There is a troll on the Canal Street.
6) I would recommend you take a paid bus tour of New Orleans. It is very interesting to see how they burry people in New Orleans it is totally different from anywhere else in the world. "Not in the ground but "up the ground".
7) Crossing the street on the side walk/ Cross walk, don't count on them (drivers) stopping for you. Make sure you check both sides of the road. It is not like California whereby a pedestrian has right of way all the time! Here they use the Napoleonic Laws!
8) Make sure you have either a rain coat or an umbrella. It can rain any time without notice. Just be prepared.
Otherwise, enjoy your stay and visit to New Orleans, Louisiana.
Sincerely,
Frank Musisi
