{UAH} ANOTHER HISTORICAL FACT TO THINK ABOUT



The shells of cowries or cowries historically were used as money in Buganda Kingdom before the arrival of Capt. John Speke and Capt. James Grant in 1862, and were also used as money before 1844, when the first Arab, Ahmed bin Ibrahim El Ameri, arrived in Kibuga.These monetary cowries are among the historic mediums of exchange in Kibuga.

If guinea fowls, goats, or animal food was required, the natives charged almost London prices, preferring cowries (Grant, 1864).

Mutesa, the King of Uganda has Zanzibar guns (Grant, 1864).M'tesa the King of Uganda are great friends with Rumanika, the King of Karagwe.The King of Karagwe, cannot write but sends a string of barckloth with knots upon it, corresponding with the number of elephant tusks sent (Grant, 1864)
