{UAH} "Fairbanks Scale" of Ivory called in Luganda "Minzani ya Masanga."

Sir Apollo Kaggwa, former Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom at Kibuga, Mmengo (Kampala). He was holding Ivory (called "essanga" in Luganda singular and "Amassanga" plural). Ivory, historically is a medium of exchange and store of value in the olden times of our ancestors, who traded in it with the Swahili coastal traders all the way from Zanzibar, Kilindini, Dar and Lamu. They used to transport and carry the ivory tusks to the coast, before being shipped to other parts of the world. Some ancient trumpets were made from the ivory tusks of native elephants of Ganda origin, especially in Bulemeezi County of Buganda Kingdom, which historically was densely populated with native Elephants. There is a well-documentary history and tangible proof to show that ancient Baganda men of Buganda traded with you, and many East African coastlands were their regular customers - they paid you with ivory. However, times have changed, because unlike in the past, today poaching is now illegal under the criminal law provisions
