Namirembe Cathedral Celebrates 100 Years

November 1915 - 2015

Centenary Celebrations (Ekyaasa Kya Luttiko)

In 1915 construction of the 4th Cathedral (the current building) at Namirembe Hill started to replace the building that had been destroyed by lighting on Friday September 23, 1910.
So this year we are celebrating 100 years of the existence of the current Cathedral building.

The Planned Activities

November 15, 2015 will be the climax of the celebrations with a thanksgiving service in the Cathedral starting at 10:00 AM. This will be preceded by a week long series of activities including:
  • A mission week
  • History Exhibition
  • Launch of the Teens Church
  • Opening Of The Namirembe Resource Center
  • Publication of the Centenary Magazine
 The Magazine
A Centenary magazine is planned that will feature:
  • History of the activities in the church
  • Significant People and events over the years
  • The role of the Cathedral in evangelism over the years
We need your help
If:
  • A member (alive or departed) of your family served as a Bishop or clergy in the Cathedral
  • A member (alive or departed) of your family participated in the construction of the Cathedral
  • A member (alive or departed) of your family married in the Cathedral
  • You know of anyone or family that is linked to Cathedral history
  • You have old photos/newspaper clips, artifacts e.t.c. that can give the historical perspective
  • e.t.c.
We want to record your history in the Magazine. Please send us articles/photos/other material to include. If needed we can send an interviewer to record your verbal story.
