Working together. The district health officer attributes the success to all the stakeholders working together.

Gulu. Gulu District has emerged the best performing district in the health sector according to the Annual Health Sector Performance report released by the Ministry of Health.

The assessment is conducted to provide analysis of the health sector performance against set targets and is based on evaluating what has been achieved and what has not.
The report was released last Wednesday at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

Speaking to journalists at Gulu District administration offices last week, the acting district health officer, Mr Robert Ongom, said the district scored 89 points out of 100, beating the other 111 districts.
"I want to thank the district local government that worked so hard with us to make sure that we achieve this victory," he said.

He added that they scored highly in health workers staffing, immunisation, HIV testing, antenatal care service provision and latrine coverage.
According to the report, other districts that performed well are Kampala, Kabarole, Jinja and Rukungiri, while those that performed poorly are Amudat, Bulambuli, Kotido and Nakapiririti.
He applauded the Local Government ministry and other stakeholders for their rapid response towards fighting the malaria epidemic that hit Gulu in April.
Mr Ongom, however, appealed to the district to fight cases of drug theft and absenteeism in rural health centres. He added that health officials will continue to visit such health centres to ensure this is achieved.

The district chairperson, Mr Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, applauded Mr Ongom for the good work.

He said the victory should motivate them to work harder. The district chief administration officer, Ms Dorothy Ajwang, said their next step is to emphasise supervision, especially in remote areas, where cases of drug theft and absenteeism are still common. Last week, police in Gulu arrested an orthopaedic surgeon attached to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for allegedly stealing drugs from the facility.

"But this I know, UPC believed and still believes in
very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
