{UAH} Kalinge Nnyago a genius!
Forum,
Most times university professors make the worst politicians, but perhaps Omar Kalinge Nnyago is a different breed.
Examples of 'bad political professors';
1- Professor John Atta Mills had to be physically punched around by his boss Jerry Rawlings and would fail to succeed his boss, only to become president after Rawlings had left office.
2- Prof. Josephat Karanja played himself stupid under Moi, calling himself acting president, until he was hounded out and died a vegetable.
3- Professor George Saitoiti, would sit and smile sheepishly as Moi told a gathering that he saw no 'presidential material' among the politicians seated there, including Vice President Saitoti.
4- Professor Ibrahim Lipumba, the amiable Tanzanian I have interviewed a dozen times has been the eternal opposition leader for Civic United Front, now kicked out of that perch by CHADEMA.
5- Professor Yusuf Lule did what you all know.
6- Professors Frederick Jjuko and Jean Barya once formed their own party hoping to defeat NRM and never even got a candidate for a LC1 seat.
7- Professor Charles Kagenda Atwooki, the UPC Administrative Secretary left Kampala in July 1985 to go and 'campaign' for a UPC seat in Kabarole in elections 'expected in December 1985', not knowing that Fort Portal had already fallen to 'bandits' and the UNLA unit there under Major Okwera had already surrendered. He had to be stopped around Mityana and sent back to Kampala.
8- Professor Welshman Ncube attempted to overthrow his boss Morgan Tsvangirai hoping to revamp MDC and it ended up losing even more seriously to a Mugabe party people had already written off.
And lots of examples of professors who make the worst political blunders as politicians.
Professor Frederick Ssempebwa and a couple of professors and doctors from the diaspora tried to create TDA in hope of fronting one candidate. They gave uninformed examples that such a scheme worked in Kenya against Moi (who was not even standing).
ENTER KALINGE NNYAGO
It was only fellow academic Omar Kalinge Nnyago who warned them it cannot work and would collapse.
He wrote opinion pieces in Ugandan and East African newspapers predicting it will collapse.
Nnyago predicted and it came to pass, and he is not even a political scientist. That makes him quite unique academic, though one can see a real 'political professor' in him when he decides to stand for president when his own wife is standing as NRM parliamentary candidate and has already said she would not vote for her own husband.
That should make Nnyago the 'UAH Ugandan Academic of the Year 2015".
