A man aimed at his girlfriend with a gun and fired five times but missed, after breaking into her house suspecting she had male company.

Gabriel Gikaru, 34, arrived at university student Naomi Sekedu's house at about 6pm on Friday, and broke in after knocking several times, police said.

They said he aimed at 26 year-old Sekedu, at the house behind Thika Road Mall in Nairobi, but shot into a wall and windows instead.

Neighbours said they heard commotion in the house and Gikaru shouting that he had bought all the items in it.

"I bought everything in this house [yet] this is what you do to me," they quoted him as saying.

Gikaru, who sustained minor injuries from broken glass while forcing his way into the house, later turned himself in to the police.

Officers visited Sekedu's house and took her away for questioning. The man she allegedly was with could not be found.

Nairobi CID chief Ireri Kamande said investigations were launched.
