{UAH} Miti-Kavuma: About Bernie Sanders
Michael,
As mayor, Bernie's leadership helped transform Burlington into one of the most exciting and livable small cities in America. Under his administration, the city made major strides in affordable housing, progressive taxation, environmental protection, child care, women's rights, youth programs and the arts.
In Congress, Bernie has fought tirelessly for working families, focusing on the shrinking middle class and growing gap between the rich and everyone else. Bernie has been called a "practical and successful legislator" and he was dubbed the "amendment king" in the House of Representatives for passing more amendments than any other member of Congress. As chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, Bernie worked across the aisle to "bridge Washington's toxic partisan divide and cut one of the most significant deals in years." In 2015, Democratic leadership tapped Bernie to serve as the caucus' ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee
But you need to know that people are not flocking to Bernie because he has been in congress since 1991. They like him because he is saying the things we have not heard any other politician say. He is very authentic. People are pleasantly surprised to learn that he has been saying the same things for THIRTY years.
He is not pretending to be the problem solver. Rather, he wants to lead a revolution that Obama once promised to lead. He openly says that one person can't change Washington and he is saying that he will use the bully pulpit to call on the masses to put pressure on congress. If Obama had called on people to pressure congress, do you think we would have ended up with the current incomplete healthcare system? You saw how republicans used the tea party anger against congress and it worked for them for a while. Bernie is promising to raise the masses the same way.

Joe,
Just out of curiosity! Bernie has been in congress since January 3, 1991. What are his major accomplishments? Actually help me out. Match his accomplishments with Hilary's.

Abu,
Actually Bernie Sanders has the better chance of winning the general elections than Hillary Clinton. Bernie has been explaining what kind of socialist he is. Which of all the candidates is not a socialist? Their socialism varies but they all socialists. though some of them may not know it. Do you any of the candidate of either party that doesn't want medicare, VA services, corporate social welfare, etc?
Bernie is doing better that Obama by this time in 2007. Obama was way behind Hillary in Oct, 2007. Bernie has raised more money in small donations than Obama did at this point of the campaign. Obama did not get to this level until February 2008. Bernie also has way more donors than Obama did at this time of the campaign.
Bernie is getting huge rallies that no one else is getting. He just broke the record for the largest rally in Massachusetts history...Obama set the record at 10,000 in 2008. Bernie had 20,000. When he came to Los Angeles last month, he got almost 30,000. He's had huge rallies in several places.
If you look at their campaigns, you can notice that Bernie has energized a lot of the people that Democrats want to turn up on voting day...liberal base, the young people, white men, independents and moderate republicans.
Bernie's economic msg is appealing to poor white male republicans too.
In 2008, Obama's campaign energized young people and they voted in unprecedented high numbers...but in 2010, when young people were not energized, almost 80% of them did not vote and the results for anyone to see...Republicans were very energized by the tea party movement but the democrats were not energized.
In places (Iowa and New Hampshire) where Bernie has gained some exposure, he is performing very well. When he entered the race in July, he was at 3% in both states and Hillary was in 60%. He is now ahead of Hillary by 10% in New Hampshire and less than 7% behind Hillary in Iowa.
Most importantly, people don't vote for candidates that they don't trust. Hillary is trusted by less than 40% but Bernie is trusted by almost 70%.
