Heavy clashes erupted in the South Sudan state of Jonglei which is commonly known by its capital`s name Bor, just a day after the Ugandan forces UPDF moved out of the area that was the epicenter of the bloody internal conflict.
The Ugandan`s army that has been in South Sudan for 21 months started their exit on Tuesday and on Wednesday the last unit left Bor, which was the Forward Base for the force towards Juba.
Thursday has been described as total disaster; the worst since the Bor massacre in December 2013 before UPDF deployment.
A mass cattle raid by tribal militias claimed tens of lives with other sources putting the death toll at 50 though the official figure from the local authorities in Juba is at 37.
The County chief or Bor told media on Friday that among the dead were 7 SPLA soldiers without naming their ranks.
Most of the fatal casualties were registered in Jalle Payam and Twist East Counties where the yet to be determined rustlers targeted cattle; heavily armed to face anything in their way.
According to sources, though not mentioned by the authorities, the Jalle Payam chief administrator Mayen Yong Jok is believed to be dead in the raid.
"The attackers raided homes including that of Mayen Yong. He might be dead now since the attackers were not sparing any one," a source said.
About 20 people suffered serious injuries from mainly bullets and machete cuts and were rushed to Bor hospital according to local authorities.
The attackers were said to be armed with battle ready long and short machine guns and even dreadfully with the Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs).
The area Member of Parliament who addressed the press together with the County Chief said the rustlers left with over 1,600 heads of cattle.
Civilians were said to be fleeing in hundreds others towards Juba following the UPDF and others even crossed River Nile towards Lake State possibly running to the Internally Displaced Camp in Aweil country.
