Kampala- The NRM electoral commission chairperson, Dr Tanga Odoi, yesterday released a list of aspirants that were discontinued from the party primaries for failing to meet the desired credentials and asked those who had started campaigns to stop immediately.

Speaking to journalists at the NRM EC offices on Kyadondo Road in Kampala, Dr Odoi singled out Nakifuma MP Kafeero Ssekitoleko whom he accused of "misleading people".

"I don't act individually, I work with a team and I have not cleared Sekitoreko. I request him to stop using my name because I am told that he has been deceiving people that I cleared him," Dr Odoi said.

He said of the 128 petition cases handled by his team, seven people have been ejected from the race, 20 withdrew after learning of the cases against them while the rest were cleared to proceed.

"If someone is petitioned and they withdraw from the race, we don't continue (with the verification process)," Dr Odoi said.

Those that were disqualified include the aspirant for Bujumba MP, Kalangala District Lt Leon Lumaga whom Dr Odoi said had not retired from the army while Mr Zaidi Rwatooro, the aspirant for the LC5 chair, Kyegegwa District, and Serere County parliamentary aspirant Justine Olupot Akuta were ejected over convictions. Others include Mr Mathias Suuna Mulumba.

Dr Odoi advised those not convinced with his commission's work on the petitions to proceed to court.

"We have tried our best to have the right candidates. Those who think we have done wrong and they have evidence should proceed to the court," the NRM official said.
