Police and immigration officers in Busia rescued nine Ugandan girls suspected to be victims of human trafficking between Kampala and Nairobi.

Immigration officials from Kenya and Uganda yesterday found the girls at the booking office of a bus company on the Kenyan side of the border, where they had been brought by boda boda riders.

An immigration officer revealed that the girls were using forged travel documents.

A woman who had prepared the girls' travel documents escaped.

It is a common practice at the border for an individual to present travel documents for verification to immigration officials, especially for those travelling as a group, without owners of the documents presenting themselves physically.

It is a loophole the traffickers exploit at the border.

The girls aged between 14 and 17 were later deported to Uganda after their passports were confiscated by Kenyan immigration personnel, who handed them to their Ugandan counterparts.

The officers disclosed that the girls were headed to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, where they would have boarded a plane to the Middle East where they had been promised jobs.
Some end up in Syria married off to Islamic fighters.

very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
