Uganda stand-off between police and protesters

Patience Atuhaire

BBC Africa, Kampala

Police in Uganda have stopped women from marching from an opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) office to parliament to protest about police brutality (see 10:15 post).

Officers have driven back the women towards an office building and have blocked both ends of the road with trucks.

Some two dozen women have been trapped here for about five hours.

They were prompted to protest after a female FDC supporter was allegedly stripped by the police while being arrested at the weekend.
