Inmates at Luzira Maximum Security Prison have asked the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda to convince the Pope to consider visiting them when he comes to Uganda later this month.
Pope Francis is expected in Uganda for a two-day visit on Nov. 27.
The inmates delivered the message to the Apostolic Nuncio Micheal Blume through an interview with The New Vision on Friday.
"Visiting the imprisoned is good work in the Catholic Church, one of the seven corporal works of mercy. While the previous pope visited Uganda, he did not visit us in jail," says Amos Olweny who is serving a death sentence over murder.
"Like no pope before him, the Holy Father has demonstrated that the church exists to serve the poor and marginalized. We courteously ask him to consider us during his visit to the country," Olweny humbly requested.

But Florence Kobusingye who is serving a 45 year sentence over murder maintains that, "the pope is trying to remind the world that even Jesus spent time with two criminals on the outskirts of Jerusalem. There is no one who is outside God's forgiveness."
"Meeting the Holy Father would be the greatest moment in my life because I will get the opportunity to ask for forgiveness as well as reconcile with the family of the person I murdered," Kobusingye confessed.
"We hope to get blessings from the pope if given the golden opportunity. God works miracles through Pope Francis so we are hoping to be forgiven for the crimes we committed."
Recently, Pope Francis visited Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Philadelphia detention Centre in America where he met with 100 convicted and suspected killers, rapists and mobsters, and offered them words of hope.
During his visit, the pope told the inmates that they have an opportunity for renewal as they look towards their future. He encouraged them to use their time in jail to get their lives on track, urging renewal and rehabilitation.
very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
