{UAH} Pope arrives safely in Rome after a very successful historic visit to Africa
Pope Francis is back in Rome. His plane landed at 6.32 pm local time
and was greeted by the Italian authorities together with leading Vatican officials. If his programme isn't altered, he will definitely recount the highlights of his very triumphant visit to the Black Continent during his Wednesday weekly audience in St Peter's Square before tens of thousands, if not more, of pilgrims most of whom have been eagerly following the events on TV. And this visit to Africa has impressed them and has created a special impact in their mind.
Even the Central African Republic which received a unanimously quasi negative forecast as a risky place where incidents could occur to mar the Papal visit, is now coming out heroically as a place which really loved to receive the Pope in order to gain comfort from his words and action of wisdom. He has won the hearts of all people there and he has succeeded to comfort the Moslems who were time and again worried about their existence in their country. Moslems have acclaimed him as a true friend whose presence was necessary to them. Even the foreign journalists were impressed with the way, for example, a bullet proof van bringing a Moslem delegation to the Papal Mass in Bangui was instantly received with deafening cheers from the 30,000 worshippers gathered in the stadium. And earlier on the Pope had impressed with his visit to the Central Mosque where these humble Moslems trapped in the bad incidents now looked at him as a very positive sign for peace. He qualified the Moslems as real brothers and sisters to the Christians, and encouraged the spirit of togetherness between the two groups. He had also visited the Evangelical Church where he was also welcomed with jubilant scenes and encouraged live co-operation with Catholics.
The Mass in Bangui attracted all classes of people right from the Interim President to the common masses. All went well. The Pope asked the congregation to move to the other bank of the river and join christ in his love for everyone. And that each one was called to be a witness of the gift of love towards any neighbour whatever may be his faith, race, tribe. he also commended the courage of the families for having been so patient towards such a terrible situation.
In the stadium the Pope received a number of gifts including a very wonderful painting from the Moslem community. An,d he too, in turn, gave out much. To the Church in Central Africa he delivered an ostensory to each diocese for the programmed perpetual adoration in appeal for peace in the country.
Indeed, all this will mark the beginning of a new era in the country, as the Archbishop of Bangui confirmed it in his address to the Pope after Mass.
Triumphant also in Kenya and Uganda! The two countries, each one in its own known individual capacity, impressed a lot!
We shall see a lot about Uganda in a next article. And we shall all be glad to learn how Uganda's very warmly welcome to the Pope impressed a lot and had many records beaten and really smashed! It's the spirit of this togetherness that brought about this quasi unprecedented triumph!
Thank you, Uganda, for everything!
