{UAH} That my friend is the sad unfortunate reality in Uganda today

Earning 60 Million Shillings per day would absolutely not be a problem for a person who works hard and shares; but some Ugandans earn this through high level patronage and corruption - some of it in 'family-themed political franchises'; others in systematic rapacious swindle. But there is one catch to it: However much you dip your hands into the public purse, there is not so much you can do with the excess money. And this is what breeds what ethicists call 'hedonistic consumerism', defined as: 'A situation in which consumption, fostered by raw wants, far exceeds commonsense basic need and tends to be monopolized by the wealthiest'.

There are not so many ways you can empty 60 million into your blood circulation everyday. Because hedonictic wants are so basic, they are the cheapest to buy - a villager with one well used acre of land can 'buy similar hedonistic pleasure' to the 60 million earner. There are only 5 hedonistic rewards that very rich people in Uganda are left to spend their fortune on: (1)Chronic eating and wining, (2)multiple concurrent sexual acts, (3)sitting down, (4) 'being seen' through veblem goods, and (5) defaecating - yes, having an exaggerated toilet. But a well motivated poor man can have them too. This is what actually the human 'Amygdala' (that part of the brain that controls the 'feeling of satisfaction' (but also non-surprisingly inadvertently controls defecation, urination and ejaculation) sees as 'success'. It explains why rich pple love large adorned toilets: The center of the brain that controls pleasure and defecation is the same! Chronic eating is manifested in the imbibing of 'very refined foods' to buy 'the best taste'. But the daily recommended dietary allowance, and tasty food are so much cheaper than 60 million that however much you eat, you cannot eat the whole f***king 60 'ma' per day. In fact even with income of just 100K per-day you can eat a 27K KFC whopper per-day and u'll still save. There is also a limit to the number of people you can successfully 'buy' to sleep with in a day, even with viagra.

Therefore, because of the very narrow range of 'pleasures' that money can buy, the ultimate result of hedonictic consumerism in countries like Uganda is chronic over-nutrition and sitting. Sometimes this leads to erectile dysfunction but viagra is so cheap to dent the 60 'ma'. So it still boils down to eating and sitting. The rich people in developed countries have seen this and one of the things they use their 60 'ma' daily incomes for is to control their weight. They also spend their excess money on giffen goods, but put most of it in Trust Funds that will live way after them. But in Uganda, it is not uncommon for pple who earn 60 'ma' per day to have some malnourished off-spring born from fuzzy relationships lingering somewhere - totally closed off from their dinner table - they only appear at their burials as if to celebrate their death. Here, chronic overnutrition is the frontline indicator for success. But believe it or not, underneath those 'walrus' gaits is a veil of hedonistic naivety.

Bukedde tv have a saying "tuli mwavu obonogobo bwebwavu" so if you have 60 mil per day it means you should stop think and say enough is enough back to the basics of having a good life happily without creating harm to the have nots. Be a solution don't make it worse
