Col Samson Mande Set to Return Home
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Col Mande, who is exiled in Sweden revealed on Thursday that he would be coming back home any time after next month's elections.
The former rebel leader made the announcement during the burial of his 95 year old father Cypriano Kabyeseiza Kigarama, who passed last Sunday.
In a Whatsapp message he sent to the mourners at the funeral at Bugongi, Kambuga in Kanungu District, Col Mande revealed that he had been reassured by government and encouraged by President Museveni and to return home.
The short message did not detail the terms of the said homecoming. He said the president agreed to allow him back in the country right after the general elections, and that he was eager to meet him.
At the funeral, President Museveni was represented by state minister for agriculture Rtd. Major Bright Rwamirama.
In his message, the president praised the work of the late Kabyesiza as one of the pioneer members of the Uganda Patriotic Movement [UPM] in the 1980s who together with his son Col. Samson Mande, worked hard to bring peace back in the country.
During his message mourners Col Mande sounded reformed, speaking against the use of violence and bloodshed to bring about regime change.
People that use war to cause change, he said don't have their country at heart and should be avoided.
In January last year, Col Mande revealed that he was finally returning home from exile, placing the homecoming date in July 2015.
He said he wanted to come back home to clear his name in the courts of law, where he faces a number charges relating to terrorism, embezzlement and treason at the Court Martial.
"One of the things I want to come back to Uganda for is to go to court and clear my name. I am not asking for forgiveness, I have a good case; I am now very healthy and will stand trial and win. I will only be requesting the government to allow due course of justice," he said.
