{UAH} DEBATE:GIVE BESIGYE AND MBABAZI MORE TIME TOMORROW

Friends,
First of all, I still believe that Mr.Museveni is gonna attend the debate tomorrow and he has probably already seen the questions. If he doesn't attend, it will be his loss in terms of tolerance and credibility, but I'm sure he will admire the whole thing from the side and give himself credit afterwards, as usual. You see even bad guys fall in love with good things when they happen, and wanna be part of them. For instance, some years ago Benny Hill(English comedian) had a skit in which a German concentration camp guard is walking down the street with his wife in the evening, and falls in love with a puppy in a pet store window, cooing and loving the cute little thing. The disparity of behaviors in the Benny Hill skit was designed to call attention to the fact that even a concentration camp guard 'can appear sane' at times. Museveni's behavior in this debate thingy is well designed to be similarly disarming. If he turns up, the opponents will probably not be ready for him. If he doesn't turn up, he will still pull a headline if the debaters tomorrow concentrate mainly on him.

The most important thing for the rest of the candidates is to make sure the big winner isn't the guy in power(whether he attends or not). This debate thingy remains the closest the opposition has come to a consensus and will likely play a big part in changing the minds of the elites in Uganda on who to vote.

What the rest of us have to keep in mind is that the candidates will not necessarily be there to debate - they will be there to let us all in because of the fact that they have access to "the ultimate truth''.

The crowning moment of the debate, if Museveni attends, will probably be when he loses the plot from a tough Besigye question and do major plonking. He's very transparent without realizing it and certainly very predictable. I just hope the moderators tactically give Besigye and Mbabazi more time than the rest of the guys in the opposition. Good luck!
