High Court in Kampala has Wednesday morning directed telecom companies MTN Uganda and Airtel to produce the key information on phone conversations of missing Amama Mbabazi aide Christopher Aine.
Aine who went missing in mid December last year has been rumored dead. According to relatives the presidential candidate was picked up by security officers and talked to an unknown destination. Police denies knowledge of his whereabouts.
The High Court Judge Lydia Mugabe said the order was purposes of helping pinpoint the whereabouts of Mr Aine.
Mbabazi lawyers of Muwema and Company Advocates are pushing for Uganda Police to produce the body of the missing person in court.
After the court ruling today, the lawyers told reporters that they are more interested in a phone conversation between Mr Aine and one of his relatives Ezra Kabugo on the night of his disappearance.
Kabugo, who claims to have led police officers to Mr Aine under duress, says the latter contacted him on phone moments before his arrest and told him that his house had been surrounded.
Mbabazi's lawyers insist that for purposes of verifying Kabugo's assertions, it is important that the details of this phone conversation are brought to the forefront.
They say police needs to establish the location of Aine at the time of the call and the voice recording of what was discussed
