Parliament passes Islamic Banking, Mobile Money Banking and Agent
Banking and Money Transfer among amendments passed in the Financial
Institutions Act yesterday January 6th 2016.
It had earlier passed a budget framework where hoes promised by
President Museveni in the ongoing general elections campaign, were
also included.
Thanks to Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, who never allowed room for
delaying tactics, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on
Finance and Nansana Municipality MP Robert Kasule Ssebunnya, former
Minister for Finance, Syda Namirembe Bumba, Kawempe North MP Latif
Ssebaggala Ssennyendo, among others. It was only Kamateka that
initially opposed it, probably, out of ignorance and or religious
fanaticism.
Bumba and Ssebaggala explained that Islamic banking is not only for
Muslim community but all God's people as it is opposed to loans with
interests or usury or ribba.
