NO LEADS YET IN CHELELE'S MYSTERIOUS DEATH

Police are yet to make a breakthrough in the brutal murder of popular Kalenjin musician Diana Chemutai Musila popularly known as Chelele.

Bomet County police boss Leah Kithei said they were yet to make any arrests but were pursuing crucial leads that may bring the deceased's killers to book.

"Very soon, we will arrest these suspects who committed this heinous act," Ms Kithei said.

"Investigations are ongoing. We are at the same time appealing to anyone having any information on the death of the singer to volunteer it to us," she added.

The police boss however revealed that several people had recorded statements in connection with the murder.

The renowned musician was on Saturday morning found dead in her house in Kapwen, Bomet County.

Ms Kithei said that the singer's body had several stab wounds and was found at the verandah.

Police suspect that she may have been murdered elsewhere and her body dumped at her home.

"The gate and the door to the house were open but there were no signs of a breaking in. We have gathered some details from the crime scene which we hope will help us in the investigations," Ms Kithei said.

Chelele's death comes few months after social media fraternity announced her death but it later emerged that she had only been hospitalized after she allegedly attempted suicide.

The Kalenjin artistes and Musicians Association (Kamua) director Bernard Langat said the singer was last spotted on January 7 in Bomet town boarding a car to an unknown destination.

"One of his close friends known as Brownie had tried to reach her on phone since then in vain. Days later, two of her sisters began searching for her after getting the reports of her mysterious disappearance only to find the body at the verandah of her house at Kapkwen shopping centre having been seriously wounded," said Mr Langat.

The society said the musician's demise has left a big gap in the music industry and asked the police to speed up investigations and bring to book whoever was involved.

The body of the singer famously known for her songs, Igaigayan, Meus Kondo, Mapenzi, Binti Osama, Mashabik among others, is at Longisa County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
