My rallies are well- attended

Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi

Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has denied claims that his campaign rallies for reelection as Bukoto Central MP are struggling to draw listeners.

In an interview at Parliament last week, Ssekandi dismissed as false footage aired by NTV during the 7pm news segment on January 3. It showed a few people attending his campaign rally at Bbaale landing site and Buyaga village.

John Baptist Teesi Lwasa, the NRM chairman for Kyesiiga sub-county, also attended the rallies with the security team of the vice president in the background.

Two people at the rally interviewed by the NTV reporter accused Ssekandi of selling their land to investors, and not doing much for the constituency yet he has held two influential government positions.

"I'm just wondering because I did not see anywhere at all the rallies I addressed on that day where voters shunned me…the story was cooked. All my rallies were fully-attended by the people," Ssekandi said.

He also rejected claims that he has done nothing for the people in his area, especially the youths, adding that electricity is now everywhere in his constituency, youths have got coffee seedlings and all roads in the three sub-counties of Kyannamukaaka, Kyesiiga and Kabonera have been worked on. He reiterated his promise to promote sports among youths in the area.

"My dream is to see youths from Bukoto Central playing football in those big teams like Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and many others. That is why I started promoting sports in my constituency," he said.

Ssekandi, who has represented the area since the Constituent Assembly days in 1994, is facing his former campaign manager Paul Migadde (Independent) and Democratic Party's Andrew Lukyamuzi Batemyetto.

Others are independent candidates Fredrick Ddembe, Magellan Kazibwe and Moses Matovu.
