A former prime minister in Uganda has accused President Yoweri Museveni of killing and torturing opposition.

"This is to inform Ugandans, both at home and abroad, that an offense is presently being waged against my supporters, as well as those who volunteer their time to work as coordinators and, or mobilizers for my campaign. In the last month alone, dozens who identify with the Go Forward campaign in one way or another, have been assaulted, arrested, 'disappeared' and even killed." Amama Mbabazi said in a statement.

Amama Mbabazi, one of the frontrunners in the presidential election next month, has accused Museveni of oppressing opposition supporters through killings and torture from the increasing elections pressure.

Dozens who identify with the Go Forward campaign in one way or another, have been assaulted, arrested, 'disappeared' and even killed.

"As the pressure of the campaigns is mounting, so are the continual attempts to intimidate and subdue my support base," he added.

President Museveni, 71, has ruled Uganda for nearly 30 years and is seeking another five year-term. This year's election is seen as the toughest for Museveni but some analysts claim that he is likely to win.

President Museveni is also accused by the opposition for using government funds to steer his election campaigns.

"But this I know, UPC believed and still believes in
very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
