{UAH} AWAY FROM POLITICS TO HEALTH---- SPECIFICALLY THOSE DIABETIC:
Friends,
I just want to share something and hope the doctors on this forum will join this debate too,God willing.
The term "Banting Circle" apparently refers to Frederick Banting who discovered insulin, but there was also a William Banting who wrote the first low carbohydrate(carb) diet book. To me a "Banting Circle" is a group of low carb dieters. So, if you have diabetes or pre-diabetic, my best advise to you is to keep controlling your carb intake and getting lots exercise. I'm sure that will help keep your BG readings within the range of healthy, normal. It's a little different than simply dieting to lose weight. Diabetes, is like stepping on the scale many times a day. No avoiding it.
Ingenuity is a good place to start.Self determination helps reestablish one's sense of self worth which has all too often taken a battering when people receive a diagnosis of T2 diabetes. So today, I'm gonna recommend two kinds of foods for those who can access them:
1.Cheese: Cheese that hasn't been aged actually lowers blood pressure. The protein snipped into little lengths by the fermentation process acts like an ACE inhibitor that reduces blood pressure.
2. Broccoli or cauliflower is a vegetable with a good safety factor where carbohydrate is concerned.Five cups of cooked cauliflower is equivalent to one cup of mashed potato. What this means is it is easier for a T2 to gauge a suitable portion without it becoming irksome. Portion control isn't even necessary for most people who adopt this path given the natural limiting factors of water and fibre content.
As for me, my diet is still under development as my wife has just served me chicken and chips subhanallah.... despite the fact that I need to control my cholesterol levels.
