Cleric says God will punish Uganda, claims poll was rigged
Church of Uganda cleric Rev. Dr. Medard Birungi has said that "God is going to punish this country because what is going on in Uganda is against God's will."
While leading a service at All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero, in the capital Kampala where Kizza Besigye was in attendance, Rev. Birungi said that the nation and all her institutions were dead and needed to rise again.
He questioned the integrity of the electoral commission in the recently held general elections saying that the results that they announced were different from what the people had voted.
"How can people go to a polling station, they vote for a person but EC declares a different person?," he wondered.
Rev. Birungi condemned the Uganda Police's behaviour in the post election period of harassing the opposition and beating up demonstrators saying that it was just treating the symptoms and ignoring the disease.
"What is going on is treating symptoms. Beating demonstrators is not solution to Uganda. You need to ask yourself why people are demonstrating then solve the problems," he said.--

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
---Theodore Roosevelt
