Go Forward pressure group has sounded a call to all Ugandans especially Civil Society Organisations (CSO) to compel government to free political detainees whose whereabouts are still unknown.

The call was made by the Go Forward Chief of Staff, Solome Nakawesa during the peace candle lighting ceremony in Nakasero organized by the Uganda Women Network (UWONET) on Wednesday.

"We share a view that you can't have peace without justice; you all know that there are many men and women that are missing within the TDA- Go Forward camp; they've held in safe houses which has kept their families so desperate," Nakawesa said.

"These people have been held in detention and have been forced to sit in press conferences and appear to be defecting to the opponent; we believe that as we transit towards peaceful elections, those are issues that we must address ourselves to as Ugandans," Nakawesa noted.

She added that in case the detainees are not released, "the journey to peace will be longer because we shall pursue their cases as long as they remain unresolved."

Nakawesa revealed that a total of 13 members including Christopher Aine are still in detention houses in the different parts of the country.

She further denied knowledge of members of Go Forward security team that recently defected to NRM camp.

"I understand you all saw yesterday a group of hooligans who were purporting to be members of our security team, am the chief of staff here and I want to tell you that I don't know those people," Nakawesa denied.

"We are aware that the same group plans to attack our offices, vandalize everything and yet they have the backing of the state."
