{UAH} IT WAS NOT A DEBATE AND NO WINNERS!
People;
Never in the history of debates has so much been said about so little!
Yesterday's presidential debate redefined the meaning of the word "debate". In my old brain, a debate would be described as giving dogs in a race an equal chance to nibble the same bone. That was not the case with yesterday's debate. Candidates were given different bones to nibble leaving spectators with no chance to determine which dog had the sharpest teeth. Therefore, no winner because they never took part in the same race. But if a winner must be selected, then its the audience. They were remarkable. Much as I was only exposed to non-looking Ugandan but a mixed race woman, who seem the only person worthy to represent the face of the audience, I thought the crowd behaved remarkably well but failed to take advantage to boo when necessary or bust out into a protest song like agenda, agenda, genda, muzee akoye..genda. That would have been the salvo that change require. It was a missed opportunity.
Once again, Ugandans have bemused the world with our best. Best candidates, best presenters who, in opinion, fell short of world standard. The presenters from the diaspora were a disaster as if i had not warned about the diaspora not to bring their antics to the home nation, Lakini wapi!. Infact, one of the male presenter with pink socks, sounded like a high school student from downtown America. While Salli sujui Shaka kept on and on like an old truck laden with charcoal, snaking its way to Kampala through hilly Wobulenzi. The candidates were a pain to listen to; a torture i had to pay for and self-inflict because I am a Ugandan.
The only candidate i need to take a deeper look at, is the female candidate. She spoke passionately about the abuse of Ugandans in the Middle East, the poor of Oyam, where Ocen Nekyon comes from being exploited by fake investors. Those are issues that touch my soul for which the solution is federal.
It was not a debate and there was no winner!
Tolerance is a stage in civilisation!
