{UAH} Kenya Doping Scandal
WBK/P'Ojim/Moses Nekyon/Gwokto,
Do you think Kenya will manage to deal with the doping threat? I
highly doubt it, given the get-rich-quick mentality that is now so
pervasive in Uganda, and I guess in kenya as well. The survival
instinct and craze to get rich quick by any means surely means Kenya
will never be able to control doping, let alone monitor it. I listened
to an interview by the great Gabriel Haile Sellassie, the marathon
king, who said many athletes now don't see any worth in the hard graft
of training if they can pay a quack doctor $200 to win a race where he
will earn $200,000. It is easier to preach the value of clean sport,
but in Africa where poverty is so pervasive and moral standards at
such a low level, I think it will be near impossible to convince most
athletes to train and work hard when they can achieve the same
results with doping.
