{UAH} Minister Otafiire arrested giving out Shs20,000 bribe

Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Gen Kahinda Otafiire, was Thursday arrested in Mitooma district over voter bribery.

The district Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Guma Nuwagaba, caught the minister red-handed in broad daylight distributing bribes in handouts of Shs20,000 to voters.

The incident happened in Kabira trading centre in Kabira county in Mitooma district.

The RDC who was in the company of military, according to the source, handcuffed Kahinda and dragged him to his office.

Apparently, the minister reportedly pleaded with the RDC to have mercy.

"He cried like a hungry child and the RDC felt pity for me," the source told us.

"Go home. I have forgiven you. Go home and leave election things alone," the RDC told Kahinda and set him free shortly after.

We were unable to reach the minister for a comment as his phone remained unavailable.

Minister trailing in the race

The minister, according to provisional results, is trailing his rival Capt. Dononzio Kahonda in the Ruhinda North constituency MP race.

According to New Vision, in the majority of polling stations, Kahonda was leading with a big margin.
