{UAH} A peace of military can only be short-lived - Ssebutinde
Justice Julia Ssebutinde, a member of the International Court of Justice, has warned that government attempts to suppress the opposition, will not address the country's quest for peace and justice.
According to Ssebutinde, the repeated arrests of Dr Kizza Besigye, the Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, will only paint the state as a violator of human rights.
Justice Ssebutinde advises government to deal respectfully with those opposed to the outcomes of the presidential and parliamentary elections.
"A peace that is maintained through force or show of force or that is coerced through the presence of military mantle on the street will be short-lived. I don't know how long we are going to sustain without this country being turned into a police state, a military state - whatever! Soon or later life will have to return to normal, otherwise citizens will begin to feel that their rights are being trampled upon. So we have as Ugandans the challenge of finding a way of returning to normalcy and at the same time to have sustainable peace", she said.
Sincerely,
