{UAH} RISE OF BODA BODA MOTOR CYCLE TAXI- ALAN KASSUJJA.
Frank Mujabi, Robert Atuhairwe, Tony Owana, Sekajja,
Very interesting programme, this one. . Mr Kasujja says there are 3
million boda bodas on Ugandan streets and roads and that the trade is
now the biggest employer in the country, with 3 million or more
relying on it for an income. It is also responsible for more than 50%
of hospital admissons and deaths. What shocked me most is his claim
that Ugandan Universities and tertiary colleges currently produce
40,000 graduates every year, of which only 800 find jobs in the public
or private sectors. According to UN statistics, Youth Unemployment in
Uganda is at a staggering 95%, the highest in the world. This tallies
well with Uganda's Life Expectancy of only 47 years, again the lowest
in the world. And this is a country that Kayibanda Museveni and his
acolytes like Robert Atuhairwe, Lt. Col. Tony Owana and Dr Kayondo
claim will be a middle income country in 5 years time.
