Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye says he has accumulated significant support in many parts of the country, as the elections draw near.

According to the Daily Monitor, Besigye, however, said there were two main obstacles that stood in the way of his victory - intimidation and voter bribery.

"If nobody is able to steal our votes, then you can rest assured that the victory will be a very easy one," Besigye was quoted as saying.

Besigye also took a moment to reject the notion that the east African country would be faced with extreme violence if President Yoweri Museveni's three decade reign came to an end.

The leader of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) said this following remarks made by a law professor at Makere University, Oloka Onyango. Onyango said Museveni would most likely not hand over power if he is defeated in the upcoming 2016 election.

While Besiyge has a good chance of winning, his efforts would prove futile because Uganda would be led into a bloodbath as Museveni's party, National Resistance Movement (NRM) would unleash violence, Onyango said.

Uganda goes to the polls on February 18.

"But this I know, UPC believed and still believes in
very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
