Accusation. The presidential candidate says the Force planted the device in his vehicle, which has been held at Wandegeya Police Station for more than a month.

Kampala. Presidential candidate Kizza Besigye yesterday accused the police of fixing an "ominous" device in his car but said he would not delve into the motive before getting expert analysis about the "dangerous device".
Police at the weekend released Dr Besigye's vehicle that has been in their custody since February 15 when clashes erupted in Wandegeya, a Kampala suburb, after the Force blocked a procession by the presidential candidate from using the city centre to access rally venue in Kisenyi.
Following the clashes in which at least one person died, police towed away Dr Besigye's car to Wandegeya Police Station-where it has been held for over a month.
However, when police released the Land Cruiser at the weekend, Dr Besigye said he inspected it and found it fitted with a suspicious gadget, raising a red flag over the target of the device.

In a telephone interview yesterday, Dr Besigye said the strange device was fitted up to the power section of the vehicle, explaining that he has enlisted car experts to analyse what the gadget could be for.
"I am not an expert. We are seeking some expert analysis. I would not want to hazard a guess but quite obviously, it was fixed and wired up to the power of the vehicle. We do not know what it is but it is ominous," he said.
Asked if he had lodged a complaint with the police, Dr Besigye said he would not want to "waste time on that". Dr Besigye, who has now spent more than a month under house arrest after rejecting results of the February 18 elections, said he is not surprised by the police actions since it is "the face of the regime".

"It is not unexpected because the police are the face of the regime we are struggling against. We are in a struggle to liberate the institutions of government from a dictatorship," he said.
At a press conference yesterday, the police spokesperson, Mr Fred Enanga, said the Force has no reason of bugging Dr Besigye's car and said it will respond definitively when private investigators finish their work.
"It should not be a big deal because all tracking devices have sources. These are investigable concerns. Let him [Dr Besigye hire a private security expert to establish the source of the gadget. A lot of things have happened and people accuse the police even before alerting it," Mr Enanga said.
