We will storm police station if you arrest Joho, Raila tells Nkaissery

Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka have threatened to storm the police station Hassan Joho will be taken to if he is arrested for not surrendering his firearms.

Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery said Joho, who is Mombasa Governor, will be in jail by 2pm if he does not comply with an order to give up the weapons.

"The Governor knows the police station and we all know the police station. Joho is not going anywhere," Raila said.

"Nkaissery has crossed the red line. Let him try and intimidate Joho. He has added salt to injury. I told him to go slowly on certain issues but he did not listen."

He said in his address at IEBC offices on Tuesday that Joho's rights are protected in the constitution and asked Nkaissery not to intimidate members of the public.

Kalonzo, who is Wiper party leader, said Nkaissery should not dare arrest "one of our own".

"When Joho is arrested we will storm that particular police station and remove him from that place," he said.

Joho, who was also present, said he is an elected leader whose rights are entrenched in the constitution.

"I cannot be threatened. I am available should Nkaissery deem it fit to arrest me. In fact I am leaving for Parliament. Let him come and arrest me," he said.

"I have done nothing. They should not look for me, let them tell me which police station to report to and I shall be there.

Joho said in Kiswahili that Nkaissery " hawezi nipunguzia pumzi wakati wowote". This loosely translates to "Nkaissery cannot limit my supply of air whenever he feels like ".

He said this was one of the tactics being used to divert attention from claims on rigging during the Malindi MP by-election.

Early Tuesday, Nkaissery told a Senate Committee that Joho can only appeal the decision once he has surrendered his guns.

The firearm law states that if a person's firearm has been revoked, he has 14 days to comply with the date the decision is made or be arrested.
