Tororo mourns ex-Obote minister - National
Tororo- Grief and shock hit the Adhola cultural institution following the mysterious death of Wilbrod Osindek Wangwor, a Senior Presidential Advisor on political affairs in charge of eastern Uganda.
The former minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister during the Milton Obote II regime, was found lying in a pool of blood by his wife, Ms Hellen Adikinyi Wangwor at his home in Amagoro Central in Tororo Municipality at 8am on Sunday.
By press time, the deceased's body was still lying at Rubongi Military Hospital mortuary awaiting a family meeting to decide on burial arrangements.
The late Wangwor, 70, formerly served as chief whip in the Obote II government, as well as Member of Parliament for Tororo North Central from 1980 to 1985.
He was appointed presidential adviser to President Museveni upon crossing from his traditional Uganda Peoples Congress party together with Badru Wegulo (RIP) and Henry Peter Mayega during the launch of NRM manifesto in 2011 at Serena Kampala Hotel.
According to Ms Adikinyi, she had returned from church service only to find her husband's body lying lifeless. Ms Adikinyi then notified police.
She told police that she discovered her husband seated on a chair at their bedroom with several machete injuries all over his head when she returned from the church.
Bukedi regional police spokesperson Sowali Kamulya confirmed the incident, adding police have already initiated investigations into the killing.
According to the postmortem report, Wangwor died due to severe hemorrhage and open head injuries.
Thomas Okoth Nyalulu, the Tieng Adhola cultural institution prime minister and spokesperson, described the late as a quiet and peaceful man who "couldn't hurt a fly" and asked the police to bring the perpetuators to book.
Wilbrod Osindek Wangwor was born in Paragang Nyawibi zone, Paya Sub-county in 1945.
He attended Barinyang and Merikit primary schools and Nagongera Seminary, Tororo College and Makerere College secondary education. He later joined Dar- Er- salaam University in 1967.
He worked as State Attorney in charge of Northern Tanzania, acting Registrar, High Court of East African community, advocate in Morshi.
He was also a member of National Consultative Council, a minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister and Chief Whip, principal State Attorney, Directorate of Public Prosecutions of Zambia and advocate in the High Court of Zambia. In 2011, he was appointed presidential advisor on political affairs [Eastern].
