Maple Valley pastor, missionary killed in Uganda car crash
MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. -- A tragedy in Africa has left a church in Maple Valley in mourning.
The church community learned early Monday that their pastor and a missionary died in a car accident during a trip to Uganda.
News broke at 2 a.m. that Generational Hope Christian Center pastor Ed Pohlreich and missionary Scott Volz died in the crash, and many church members haven't slept since.
"They were like brothers," said Generational Hope pastor Justin Garland. "So they were doing the Lord's work together."
Volz had been a missionary in Uganda for 17 years, where he raised his family and helped build churches. Pastor Pohlreich moved to Uganda several months ago and was excited to build schools and bring medical supplies to people in need.
"He knew that he was called to the people of Africa," said friend Pat Ellis, describing Polreich. "His heart was in Uganda, the people," added Garland about Volz.
Garland was forced to break the horrible news about the car crash.
"I just told them the facts, and that I was sorry, and that we were here for them and that we would be here to walk with them from here on out," Garland said.
On Monday that walk started with helping each other get the men back home. A GoFundMe account launched on Monday has already raised nearly $15,000.
"In the sentence of life," said Ellis. "Death is not a period, it's a comma.
Funeral arrangements are still being planned, but church officials say they'll be holding a vigil Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Maple Valley church.

very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
