{UAH} Police Broke in Our Offices – Mbabazi Lawyers
Lawyers handling Presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi's election petition have accused Uganda Police of breaking into their offices and taking their equipment and materials related to the case.
Muhammed Mbabazi, one of the lawyers was shocked to find his office ripped open with an assortment of papers missing as well as computers.
He told reporters at his office along Buganda Road that he believed police broke in the office.
"It is a shame, but we have been told that policemen came here and did this. People saw them," he said.
Asked on whether or not he intended to report the matter to police, Mr Mbabazi said he had no reason to.
"What are they going to tell us about it? That we came here and when we found that your are away, we decided to break in the office?"
Earlier during the pretrial hearing of the election petition at the Supreme Court of Monday, Amama Mbabazi's lawyers appealed to the court judges to direct the Attorney General to stop police and government security agencies from arresting their witnesses.
Responding to the said break in, junior ICT minister and one of members of the NRM's campaign task force Hon Nyombi Thembo said it was early to conclude that police orchestrated the attack.
He said it was also possible that the break in was stage-managed, noting, "In order to embarrass government, they can stage the whole thing, raid the scene and show that it was police"
By publication time, police spokespersons Fred Enanga and Polly Namaye were yet to return our requests for comments.
