{UAH} Pres. Museven:i Small children walk to school at 4.20 a.m.!
In the sixities and sevenities up to 1979 - any child anywhere in the territory of Uganda where Uganda Transport Corporation Operated any child could board and get to school free of charge.
It was a great relief for parents as well as school administrators - children reached school and home safely and not so tired. What the conductor did " was to ask the child to raise his /her right arm above the head and try to touch the end of the left ear" failure to do so garuanteed, that that was a child and had to get the services.
Today, all over the country children have to walk kilometres after kilometres to school. And it is no longer safe with speeding drivers on good but poorly designed roads without sidewalk paths.
If a child's home is at Kasana in Luwero and has to go to SDA at Katikamu in Luwero that will be 2000 shs per day. In Towns it will be worse.
There are stories of condustors stealing from children or chidren being knocked down by speeding vechicles. It is all so terrible on sunny and rain day a like.
There is need for public Transport System to develop the country's youth and children and relieve overburdened parents
Bwanika.
