Ugandan Elections and Peace in the Region

Group Discussion -

What is the importance of the Ugandan elections on the peace process in the Great Lakes region? What can be the role of the Ugandan Diaspora in the Netherlands in the elections and in other democratization activities in their home country? In the light of the coming Ugandan elections we look at the political situation in the country together with representatives of the Ugandan diaspora.

Uganda has been playing a big role in the peace-building process in the whole Great Lakes Region, for instance as mediator in current political negotiations to bring peace in Burundi. What impact do the coming elections have on the national political situations and how do they influence the role of Uganda in the region?

The elections are interesting not only for the Ugandan Diaspora living in the Netherlands, but also for Dutch citizens and the Dutch Government, since the Dutch government is one of the main partners of the Government of Uganda.
