{UAH} BIBLIO OF Dr STELLA NYANZI
Frank Mujabi/ Robert Atuhairwe,
Here is a reader's profile of Dr Stella Nyanzi.
WHAT IF DR STELLA NYANZI IS ON RESEARCH?
The country was shocked by news of Dr Stella Nyanzi stripping naked as a mean to show her dissatisfaction against her boss Prof. Mamdan's directive to vacate her office, he went on to lock the said office. I first made a track record on what she studied, what she has been doing and what was her motivation to do something considered unethical and morally wrong in the Uganda society. First of all, she is a research fellow at MISR, she is a PhD holder from the University of London based on ethnographic fieldwork of youth sexualities, sexual and reproductive health in The Gambia, and she has fifteen years of social science research experience.
Her study titles are rotating around sexuality (taboos), that's why those who tried to understand here were neither surprised nor disappointed by her words and actions, some of the titles are;
_ Ethnographic inquiry into politicization of the 'sin of Sodom and Gomorrah' in Uganda.
_ Examining the vulnerability and resilience of ( refugee & internally displaced) women to JOB/AIDs in Uganda.
_ Sexual citizenship, health and human rights of sexual minorities in Uganda - establishing an evidence base.
When you check her profile you will find this statement "her current research at MISR comprise ethnographic inquiry into the politicization of homosexuality in contemporary Uganda-with focus particularly on unpacking mainstream religious framing of and contestations about sexual citizenship"
Methods used in research are; talking with people, focus groups, personal interviewing, literature search, true experiments among other.
What if Dr Stella is making her research by experimenting and chooses to do it by experiencing it herself? Now this is where I want to draw your attention, those castigating her and those supporting her action are unconsciously contributing to her research. However, her research is different this time, it has exposed the rot in Makerere University, it has put the independence of this great institution at a test, is it free from government intervention? Makerere is a public institution, meaning its employees are public servants, she has a permanent contract and pensionable, she is a known government critic and.she openly supports the FDC founding president Dr Kizza Besigye, this draws us to another question whether government employees can openly support another candidate other than the incumbent? Do you remember when Hon Byandala boxed a female journalist? No one ever opened his/her mouth to tell him resign, the victim opened a case with police but when given money she ignored the matter and never wanted justice but money, when you beat a woman it's ethical and moral in Uganda today but its immoral and unethical when a woman undresses when fighting for her rights!!!!!!!
This would be a good area to consider for Dr Stella's research. I want to appeal to the learned fellows to look at her action beyond ordinary.
Just thinking out side the box.
