Christian woman "amazed" after Ugandan school's named after her
A Christian woman who raised £30,000 for children in Uganda says she hopes to return to a school she helped build.
Brenda Brown from Newbottle in Tyne and Wear was prompted to begin fundraising after the African Children's Choir performed at her church, the Bethany Christian Centre, in Houghton-le-Spring in 2003.
The 70-year-old joined the group on their tours of the UK and South Africa, and raised money by holding concerts and other events.
Her efforts have helped build a new school in Wobulenzi, a village which is approximately 30 miles north of Uganda's capital city, Kampala.
Quoted in The Northern Echo newspaper, Brenda said she was amazed after the school was named 'Brenda's Promise Kindergarten', in her honour.
Ms Brown: "I felt God say there's nothing to stop you touring with them. I'm totally amazed.
"People's hearts have been touched and felt they wanted to help. I've been blown away at how people have responded."

very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
