Military Police soldiers cry over burial fund

Low cadre soldier in Makindye Military Barracks have expressed their annoyance over their bosses' decision not to facilitate them for burial whenever they lose dear ones or workmates.

This emerged three weeks when their colleague Zainabu Katusabe died instantly after she had gone to her home village in Bundibugyo District.

It is alleged that a group of soldiers who were willing to go and attend the burial were denied a vehicle despite many cars being parked at the yard.

Katusabe who had just returned from Somalia under UGABAG has been attached to Makindye for more than 10 years.

Thunder News also understands that another colleague who died from hospital was buried at the cemetery yet he had been contributing to the burial fund on a monthly basis.

Another lady soldier who lost her child a few months ago was told to pay Shs200,000 such that a vehicle could be refueled to take her child's body for burial.

An insider tells Thunder News that each soldier attached to Makindye was forced to pay Shs4,000 per month until the venture was halted a year or two ago.
The money, which had been collected for years was not refunded as bosses promised to use it whenever there was a tragedy among soldiers and families.

This has, however, not been fulfilled.
