Israel is an associated state of the European Union. Yes, you read that right. Israel has had preferential import customs duties so it can grow avocados, soya and olives on Palestinian land, and then ship it to Israeli-owned supermarkets in the UK such as Tesco and Sainsburys - without paying a penny in customs duty. A Cooperation Agreement in 1975 between the E.U. and Israel provides preferential economic, commercial, technological and research status between the parties. It included measures for the creation of a free trade area in industrial goods, and the liberalisation of trade in agricultural goods, of services, and of capital movements. The agreement also set the basis for cultural, research and political cooperation.
What benefit is that to British people who are the biggest payers for EU membership? British workers are basically bank-rolling the rest of Europe and providing money for wages to eurocrats who invite Israel to a 'free trade' zone, knowing full well that Israel purchase white phosphorous explosives from Monsanto which it uses to kill un-armed children. The boycott of Israeli avocados, soya, tomatoes and olives grown on Palestinian land has caused a massive collapse in the profits of Tesco - the number one supermarkets in the UK are now ALDI and LIDL… However, after 15 years of wrangling, the goods grown on 'settlements' - which is a euphemism for 'stolen Palestinian territory - are now finally being labelled and are meant to have import tax applied to them.
