In attendance also is Garissa county Governor Nathif Jamah who is seen seated with Raila in the dias as other leaders address a large crowd that has turned up for the rally.

The master of ceremony is former Deputy Speaker in the National Assembly Farah Maalim.

The rally is happening at Garissa Township constituency, Majority Leader Aden Duale's backyard.

Raila is expected to continue his calls for dialogue over the disbandment of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

According to the opposition leader, an agreement was reached with President Uhuru Kenyatta that they form a 10-member team for the dialogue.

Raila claims this agreement was reached when Uhuru invited him to State House alongside his Cord colleague Moses Wetangula.

"I am ready to swear with the Bible…we agreed that we should come up with a team of five — each from the coalitions — and it is very dishonest of the president and his deputy to lie to Kenyans on national television," said Raila during a prayer rally in Kisumu.

However, Uhuru and his team have maintained that there was no such an agreement and want the opposition to follow the law in disbanding the commission.

Uhuru says that he is determined to defend the constitution and will not give in to demands by the opposition to disband the commission.

"No such agreement was struck, as it would have been inconsistent with President Kenyatta's stand on the subject, which is that any discussions on the IEBC or any other constitutional body must be done within confines of the law," State House said in a statement.

This alleged change of heart has prompted the opposition to call for another protest come Monday, June 6. Their notification to the police has, however, been turned down as police maintain the demonstrations are outlawed.

As reported by TUKO.co.ke, Raila has also held a meeting with ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi over the matter. Mudavadi is said to have reminded Raila how Uhuru dishonoured a deal they had struck in 2013.

It remains to be seen if the talks will happen and a solution to the stalemate reached.
