{UAH} Republicans lost it big time by Rev Sam Esale
After 2 years and 7 million dollars down the drain, Republicans did not come up with a smoking gun linking Hillary to Benghazi gate. This is another reason to NOT trust the government of USA in the hands of Republicans or Trump. An investigation which, under normal circumstances ought to have been bi-partisan, turned out to be a witch hunt, motivated by Republican Party's desire to smear Hillary Clinton who is now leading the race to the Oval Office. The timing of the silly report is also very suspect. No new evidence surfaced, after all.
Having said that, Republicans missed an opportunity to embarrass Hillary in public during the televised "hearing" on Benghazi in Oct, 2015. In fact they exposed their stupidity to the American public by failing woefully, to match their wits against Hillary's intelligence, astonishing composure and her understanding of International Affairs/geopolitics. During the "hearing", Republican law makers looked like peevish school boys being lectured by a calm, cool and collected Secretary of State.
That notwithstanding, there is a clear contrast between the recalcitrance of the partisan Republican inquisition and the 9/11 Bi-partisan Commission that was put in place to investigate the failure of US Homeland Security network post 9/11 attacks, which left 3,500 Americans dead in New York City, when Rudy was Mayor. The 9/11 Commission did NOT set out to look for excuses to blame the attacks on George Bush, Dick Cheney or Donald Rumsfeld. The Commission produced a report that was objective/non-partisan, reliable and instrumental to National Security policy reforms. The goal was not to incriminate or embarrass the Bush Administration. It was to find the cause of important security problems and fix them.
However, if 9/11 had happened during or under a Democratic administration, Republicans would have called for the impeachment or resignation of POTUS. That's exactly what Trump did right after the Orlando massacre. Donald Trump, who is the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party was not ashamed to blame the event in Orlando on POTUS. And his sentiments were echoed by Senator John MC-Cain.
George Bush and his cohorts are still enjoying their freedoms even after verifiable culpability in 9/11. Bush was "sleeping on the clock." Not only did 9/11 leave 3,500 innocent civilians dead in USA, the incident also triggered the Iraq War which led to the death of more than 4,500 American military men & women, more than 50,000 Iraq soldiers and civilians, and created one of the worst refugee crises in human history. It is worth noting that the War was waged under false pretexts. There was no cache of nuclear weapons, no mushroom cloud and no smoking gun in Iraq under Saddam. All the more reason why George Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld, ought to be arrested and charged with War crimes or man's inhumanity to man.
Did Senator John MC-Cain blame President Obama for the rise of ISIS? That too is rubbish. The actions of the same men who started the Iraq War, gave rise to ISIS in the region. ISIS was born in Iraq after the De-Baathification of Iraq.
The De-Baathification of Iraq Civil Service & Military, following the orders from Bush, created a messy situation that turned the country up-side-down. Purging the Iraq Government of members of Saddam's Baath Party was one of the most colossal blunders of the Bush Administration, to prop up Al Maliki. Armed soldiers were sacked and left unemployed. That turned these Baathists into a bunch of armed thugs, then militia-hence the birth of ISIS. And their goal has been the establishment of an Islamic Caliphate or Islamic State based on Sunni religious ideology. ISIS thinks in terms of Mesopotamia as their cradle. It is therefore erroneous to think that ISIS was born in Syria, at the provocation of Assad. The borders between Iraq, Turkey & Syria are porous, allowing easy mobility all ways. Today, Turkey was hit by ISIS, right inside Istanbul. What does that tell us?
Republicans have since tried to rewrite the history of our world, especially the Middle East. Their hypocrisy and ignorance are so blatantly obvious, they stink. Nothing they say about World events is true. Not even their take on the War on Terrorism or Global Warming. And Trump does not know anything about power play or geopolitics in the Middle East or around the world.
If George Bush did not order the attack on Iraq after 9/11, under very false pretexts, and if the Bush Administration had a viable exit strategy after the evil War against Iraq, then that region of the world would not be in shambles as it is today, and ISIS would not exist. Therefore, the Bush Administration and Republican Party are fully responsible for the mess in the Middle East, the death of more 4500 US Service men and women, the death of more than 50 thousand human beings in the region, the worst humanitarian crisis in modern history and for the increase in terrorist attacks around the globe, perpetrated by ISIS. President Obama has spent more than 7 years cleaning the trash left behind by George Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. Obama ended the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, both of which cost this nation so much in life and treasure. It is my hope that Hillary Clinton will follow Obama's leadership approach to to demonstrate American Exceptionalism around the world.
Best,
Rev. Sam Esale
